Frequently Asked Questions

What is an XML sitemap?

An XML sitemap is a file that lists all important pages on your website, helping search engines like Google discover and crawl your content more efficiently.

Where should I place my sitemap?

Place your sitemap.xml file in the root directory of your website (e.g., https://example.com/sitemap.xml). You should also reference it in your robots.txt file and submit it to Google Search Console.

What do the priority values mean?

Priority ranges from 0.0 to 1.0 and indicates the relative importance of a page within your site. The homepage is typically set to 1.0, main sections to 0.8, and regular pages to 0.5. Note that search engines may not strictly follow these values.

How many URLs can a sitemap have?

A single XML sitemap can contain up to 50,000 URLs and must not exceed 50MB in size. If you have more URLs, you can create a sitemap index file that references multiple sitemaps.
