Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into focused intervals (traditionally 25 minutes) separated by short breaks. After completing a set number of intervals, you take a longer break. The technique helps maintain concentration and avoid burnout.
Why is it called "Pomodoro"?
"Pomodoro" is Italian for "tomato." The technique is named after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer that its creator used as a university student.
Can I change the timer durations?
Yes. Click the gear icon below the timer to customize the focus duration, short break, long break, and the number of sessions before a long break. Common variations include 50/10 for deep work or 15/3 for quick tasks.
Will I hear a sound when the timer ends?
Yes. The timer plays a gentle beep sound using the Web Audio API when each session completes. Make sure your browser tab is not muted. No external audio files are needed.
Does the timer work in the background?
Yes. The remaining time is shown in the browser tab title, so you can switch to other tabs and still see your countdown at a glance. The notification sound will also play when the timer finishes, even if the tab is in the background.
Is my data saved?
All data stays in your browser for the current session. Nothing is sent to any server. If you refresh the page, your session history will be reset. No account or signup is required.
